The Managed Team model is a result oriented outsourcing model removing most of operational responsibilities from the customer. In this approach, iScale Solutions is solely responsible for managing operational resources, for delivering the product or service as per the customer specifications, and for respecting contractual Service Level Agreements (SLAs) defined in the service contract. The Managed Team is a more “Hands Off” approach for the customer. Processes and deliverables are defined, SLAs are agreed upon, then iScale has flexibility to arrange its team adequately. A project or account manager typically interacts with the clients to take input and give status of the deliverables.
The Managed Team model is usually a better fit for smaller, shorter term projects. It is however significantly more expensive as the teams put in place need to be dissolved or rearranged frequently when short term projects complete. Another challenge is that it may take time for a newly formed team to operate optimally. Team members may not always have worked together previously, and the newly formed team may need a bit of time to get along. Although more convenient and flexible on paper, the Managed Team model is not the silver bullet for everything. Many prospects often expect too much, too fast from a Managed Team model. This model is successful for low risk, short term projects where results are clearly defined and decisions taken are properly documented.
